Morocco's first infected coronavirus patient has died on Tuesday, becoming the country's first COVID-19 death.

This will be the second death recorded in the whole of Africa after the first was announced in Egypt on Monday.

As of Tuesday, there were just 104 official cases on the continent.

The deceased, according to Moroccan Health Ministry is an "89-year-old woman, who was suffering from chronic diseases of the respiratory system, heart, arteries and other diseases" died from the virus.

Authorities also confirmed a French tourist tested positive for the virus bringing the tally to three in the North African nation.

On March 2, Morocco reported first coronavirus case of a citizen who had returned from Italy.

The global death toll from coronavirus is over 4,000 with more than 113,000 confirmed cases in 110 countries, according to the World Health Organization.

Other African countries with infected cases are Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, Tunisia, Senegal, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, and Togo.
