Prof Akin Abayomi, the Lagos State Commissioner of Health, has said that the state's decision to confine certain COVID-19 patients at home is based on a recommendation by the World Health Organization, WHO.

Abayomi had earlier in the week stated that COVID-19 patients who don't show severe signs of the disease will be confined and treated in their homes.

Making further clarifications on Twitter, Abayomi said, "Our isolation centres will be dedicated to those who have severe cases of COVID-19, where we have more sophisticated medical personnel and equipment to look after complications.

"We will confine those with mild cases to home or community based care.

"This is WHO recommendations and it is practiced around the world. Once an outbreak exceeds the carrying capacity of the health infrastructure, a new strategy will have to be put in place to manage people at the community level".
