COVID-19 won't be defeated except the world unites - WHO

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, has revealed that the world will not be rid of the Coronavirus pandemic except it unites.

The message comes as the world battles to contain the deadly virus that has infected more than 3.1million people and killed over 210,000 persons, according to Worldometers.

As many nations, including Nigeria, begin to relax lockdown, Dr. Tedros has warned that the virus is far from over.

More work needs to be done and as cases decline in Europe, adequate tracking, isolation and treatment of patients must be of topmost priority, the WHO DG said in a video on his Twitter account.

"The pandemic is far from over. I repeat, the pandemic is far from over,” Ghebreyesus said.

"WHO continues to be concerned about the increasing trends in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and some Asian countries.

"But I repeat, national unity is the foundation for global solidarity. That is what we will say every single day. This virus will not be defeated if we are not united," he stated.

Dr. Tedro also expressed concern over the increasing rate of the pandemic in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and Asia.[Daily Post]
