COVID-19: Somali authorities ban swimming

People have been restricted from going to the beach after the authorities in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, placed a ban on swimming at the popular Lido beach in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.

As of April 1, the health ministry of the country has recorded a total of 5 coronavirus cases and one recovery with no death, according to Worldometers.

The authorities have ordered businesses located around the beach such as hotels and restaurants to enforce hygiene measures to reduce the risk of the virus spreading.

Somalia, which is slowly recovering from a civil war, could be overwhelmed by the deadly virus if it spreads due to the country's poor health system.
