In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, a Twitter user identified as Dr. Abubakar Hidima has advised Islamic organisations on what to do as the outbreak spreads in Nigeria.

Nigeria is currently battling to contain the virus which has risen to a total of 46 infections and one death as of March 25, according to Johns Hopkins University & Medicine.

In his address on Twitter, he said:

"Dear Nigerian Muslims, humanitarian crisis is definitely one of the things we should plan for, in the wake of the #COVID outbreak.

"It is not out of place to call our religious organizations & remind them of the looming tragedy, especially in the event of a lockdown.

"We all know that #Izala KD & Jos, #Tijjaniyya, #Qadiriyya & so on do compete to build Mosques in almost every remote area. Which means, their presence is well represented almost every part of Northern Nigeria Howe er remote. I believe this is the time to use that opportunity.

"We need you to sensitize the people, provide hand sanitizers & face masks as well as financial or food assistance to the people as much as you can. For the sake of humanity, I believe whatever project you have at hand can wait for this.

"As individuals also, let us see what we can contribute in our local areas to assist the less privilege ones, especially those that have to go out everyday before they get what to eat. Limiting the movement of people isn't only helping them, but helping ourselves.

"The time to begin is now. Let us make good use of the opportunity we have & contribute as much as we can & however small if that's the only thing we have. Let's do this for humanity sake.

"Please let those have access to them pass a word. We have to come all out for this. May Allah save us. May He protect us all."
