COVID-19: PTF speaks on coronavirus spreading sexually COVID-19: PTF speaks on coronavirus spreading sexually

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has said that it has not yet been proven that coronavirus can be spread through sexual intercourse.

The National Coordinator of the PTF, Dr Sani Aliyu, made this known contrary to a claim by Health Minister, Ehanire Osagie, who said that the "virus can be transmitted sexually" if one partner is positive.

Fielding questions on the likelihood of sexual transmission, Aliyu stated that the virus is still in its early stage in the world and that research to prove that it spreads sexually hasn't been done.

“At the moment, there’s no evidence of sexual transmission when it comes to COVID-19, but of course, we are still in the early days of the disease.

”The same thing happened in the case of Ebola, when subsequently it was proven that it was sexually transmissible.

“There was a small test case series of ten women who had severe COVID-19 and genital secretions were negative of COVID-19 virus. I think it’s still in the early days. I’ll just say, watch this space”, he said.
