More than 100 persons have been arrested by the police in Uganda’s capital Kampala for defaulting the coronavirus lockdown issued by the government.

According to Worldometers, Uganda has recorded a total of 45 positive cases of coronavirus without death.

The dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed as a measure to curb the spread of the COVID-19 disease.

Police have since arrested a total of 165 people since the curfew started on Wednesday night.

The BBC reported that more than 60 people were rounded up in Kampala and nearby districts on the first day of the lockdown.

Another six people were opening their shops, breaking presidential orders that businesses must close.

A video of the arrested defaulters was uploaded on Twitter by a local media where those arrested were spotted sitting on the ground outside the Kampala Central Police Station.

According to the BBC, the video has raised concerns that herding the suspects together goes against social distancing advice but a police spokesperson said that all the suspects had their temperature taken, and they have to wash their hands regularly according to Covid-19 prevention guidelines.
