COVID-19: 84 Kenyan returnees arrive Nairobi

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

At least 84 Kenyan citizens have arrived in the country's main airport following evacuation from the United Kingdom over the COVID-19 pandemic.

The returnees, according to the BBC, will be quarantined for 14days, after initial screening upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the capital, Nairobi, on Monday night.

The Daily Nation newspaper reports that more Kenyan citizens will be coming in from China and India.

One of the passengers is quoted as saying that each passenger occupied three seats and they wore face masks throughout the journey. They each paid 54,000 Kenyan shillings ($509; £411) for the Kenya Airways flight.

The country has banned international flights and closed its border crossings as part of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The UK now holds the record for the highest COVID-19 deaths in Europe, surpassing Italy with a total of 29,427 and 194,990 infections.

Kenya, on the other hand, has a total of 24 deaths and 535 cases of coronavirus, according to Worldometers.
