The Bauchi State has organized a two-day health summit to tackle challenges of healthcare delivery.

The theme is 'Optimising the Health Care System in Bauchi State'.

It has three sub-themes: Tackling Challenges of Health Care Delivery; Utilising Inter-Sectoral Collaboration to Improve the Health System; and Identifying Financing Options for Sustainable Health Care Delivery.

Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire opened the summit at the Command Guest House in Bauchi on Monday, October 19, 2020.

He said the summit was timely, praising the governor for organising what he called “the first-ever comprehensive health summit in northern Nigeria.”

Dr Ehanire said COVID-19 had exposed Nigeria’s weak health care system, adding: “it also provided us opportunities to restructure our health care systems and make them better.”

He added that the summit would offer opportunities to adopt comprehensive and pragmatic approaches to addressing problems bedevilling the sector.

Governor Bala Mohammed said the state deemed it necessary to come up with the summit as his administration had inherited a malfunction and highly inefficient health system characterized by the huge infrastructural deficit, inadequate human resources among others.
