No fewer than 253 Evacuees from the United Kingdom have arrived Abuja, this evening.

They were evacuated on a British Airways flight from the UK to Lagos initially, as reported by MyNigeria.com.

Speaking about the situation during a briefing at the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama apologised for the stop-over in the commercial capital, Lagos.

He said the agreement British Airways had with them was to take evacuees to Lagos and not Abuja.

Arrangements made with Air Peace finally ferried the passengers to Abuja.

Giving a pictorial update, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri tweeted:

"Finally. In Abuja. With 253 stranded Nigerians from the Uk, after hours of delay in Lagos. The delay in Lagos is most regrettable, as reiterated by Hon Minister @GeoffreyOnyeama during today’ s briefing. These are unusual times. Welcome home!"
