There is no doubt that the death of the former head of state and President of Ghana, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings (Rtd.), closed the curtains to the life of one of Africa's illustrious men.

His death dealt a heavy blow to the continent and it was made visible at his burial held in Ghana's capital, Accra on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.

In attendance were Heads of States, ambassadors, foreign envoys, chiefs, representatives of local and foreign institutions.

Surprisingly, Nigeria's secessionist group, The Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) were also in attendance to pay their final respect to the man they describe as a "visionary leader".

An image that has surfaced on social media and sighted by MyNigeria shows some members of the group holding a banner with the inscription; "We the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) mourn the death of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings."

"Farewell, the visionary leader of Africa," it said.

Speaking to some of the members present at the venue, they intimated that the late Rawlings was one of Africa's finest leaders who can be compared to Ghana's first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Ghana has been a safe haven in recent years for members of the secessionist group who claim they are been hunted, maimed, and even killed due to their ideology of a divided Nigeria.
