Biafra: South East Governors disown IPOB, secessionists

The South East leaders has rejected the secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other pro-Biafran agitators.

The leaders also condemned the violent activities of the secessionist group. According to the them, the proscribed group do not speak for the Igbo people.

In a publication cited on The Nation newspaper, the decision was taken during a closed door meeting held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the Enugu state government house.

The leaders which include governors, federal lawmakers, elders, traditional and religious leaders in the region, affirmed their commitment to one united Nigeria under the platform of justice, equality of rights, fairness, love, and respect for one another.

The leaders announced in a communique that a committee has been set up to engage youths spearheading those secessionist groups.

According Leadership newspaper, Governor Umahi noted that the strategic meeting also condemned the killings of security operatives and civilians in the southeast and other zones.

He called on the security operatives to discharge their duties within the rules of engagement.

In a publication by Daily Trust newspaper the communique read:

“We, the southeast leaders condemn in totality the violent secessionist agitations in the southeast. We firmly proclaim that we do not support them. They do not speak for the southeast.”
