‘I used to think singing was for weak people’ – Victony

Afrobeats singer, Anthony Victor who is also known as Victony has revealed why he didn't start his career as a singer despite being aware of his singing talent.

According to him, he said he always wanted to be a rapper because he thought singing was an escape for “weak people.”

Speaking in the latest episode of the Zero Conditions podcast, Victony said he switched from rapping to singing in 2020.

He said it was also in that year when he released his first Afrobeats song 'Soweto' in “2020.

“Honestly, I used to know I could sing but I just refused to. Because I just felt like it was for weak people. I felt like it was an escape for weak people.

“I always loved that rapper energy and I wanted to be a rapper. But when I started singing, I realised that it is just as technical as rapping.”
