Former Big Brother Naija winner Otabor Josephina Ijeoma, popularly known as Phyna, has issued a stern reality check to the latest batch of reality show graduates, warning them against letting fan hype and internet comparisons cloud their financial judgment.
Speaking during a recent live video stream, the reality TV star cautioned newly emerged celebrities about the brief shelf life of post-show fame, advising them not to let online fans pressure them into expensive lifestyles.
"Fans will rage bait you, make you feel like you're a president. Don't fall for it," Phyna stated. "After eight months, you'll be forgotten and they will move to the next Big Brother housemates."
Phyna explained that the immediate aftermath of the show often creates a false sense of security for housemates due to media tours and corporate endorsements.
"In the first month, it's all chaotic. You'll be going around, meeting brands, going for media rounds. You'll be in public. That is where fans will be making you feel big. They will be comparing you to your former housemates. Don't fall for it. Don't let them pressure you," she added.
The former winner specifically commended recent housemate Flora for publicly distancing herself from social media expectations and choosing a grounded lifestyle over performative luxury.
"I was happy when Flora came online to say that she's not yet a celeb. If you see her walking on the streets or in public transport, don't be shocked. I said, 'that's my girl,'" Phyna remarked. "That's why I love what Flora did. She took herself out of the conversation immediately."
"No let any fans ragebait you. They will make you feel like a superstar, but after one month, it is gone" — Former BBNaija winner Phyna has a word for her new colleagues who just graduated from the show. https://t.co/QveTplcJqD
