Popular Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, known professionally as Mayorkun, has shared the relationship advice he received from his elder brother after opening up about his struggle to find a suitable partner for marriage.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Uncut podcast, the "Mayor of Lagos" crooner revealed that his brother pinpointed his nightlife habits and the settings in which he meets women as the main obstacles in his search for a wife.
"I told my big bro I have been struggling to find the right woman to marry, and he asked me a simple question: ‘When was the last time you spoke to a girl in broad daylight?’" Mayorkun recalled. "You can’t be a responsible girl and still be outside by 1 a.m."
The singer noted that he agreed with his brother's logic, agreeing that responsible partners are unlikely to be found frequently keeping late hours in nightlife settings.
Elaborating on the difficulty of finding genuine love as a public figure, Mayorkun recounted a past dating experience where a woman tried to play ignorant of his fame, only to inadvertently expose her pretense.
He shared how a woman he asked out claimed she did not know who he was or recognize his music, yet went on to sing one of his throwback hit tracks word for word when it played on the radio during their second date.
According to the artiste, rampant pretentiousness and "fake lifestyles" among prospective partners continue to complicate dating and long-term commitments in modern celebrity culture.
