Box office record-breaking Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has urged citizens to keep praying for the nation and maintain hope for a better future, speaking on the occasion of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day celebration.
In a video message shared across her social media platforms on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the award-winning producer addressed the public against a backdrop of ongoing socio-economic challenges, stressing the importance of national pride and collective resilience.
Akindele emphasized that despite the current economic landscape, Nigerians must continue to cherish and support their homeland.
"Today is Nigeria’s birthday, we have to celebrate despite what’s going on. Nigeria is our own. It’s my country, this is where I earn a living from," Akindele declared.
The A Tribe Called Judah director encouraged citizens to remain optimistic about the country's ultimate restoration and progress.
"We’re going to keep celebrating Nigeria as our country. Nigeria will be great by God’s grace. Let’s keep praying for Naija," she added.
