Music video director TG Omori has opened up about the staggering cost of managing his kidney failure, using his experience with dialysis to explain why having money matters when dealing with serious health challenges.

Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, Omori said the financial reality of his condition is something people rarely discuss openly.

"Money is actually important. Because I can't like you spend a lot of crazy money. And people don't talk about that enough. Dialysis on a regular is like 70k to 50k per session. But where I do mine is around 150 to 200K because it's exclusive," he said.

He explained that his treatment often requires multiple sessions a week, pushing costs even higher.

"Sometimes you need three dialysis sessions in a week. So that's about 500K a week. So a minimum wage person is dead already on one session," he said.

Omori went on to break down the long-term financial burden faced by patients awaiting a transplant, noting that a year of consistent dialysis — mmwithout factoring in complications, tests or medication could cost as much as ₦31 million.

"So now you're waiting a year for a transplant. And for that one year, you have to be on dialysis for a year... sometimes you're spending 200K per session. So in a week, you're probably looking at 600K. So if you calculate that in a year, that's 31 million naira," he said.

He stressed that even a comfortable salary wouldn't be enough to sustain such treatment.

"So automatically, if your salary is even one million naira a month, they can't serve you. You know, it's crazy. So you have to actually have money. Like money, not just money, you have to have people that have money to also support you," he said.

Reflecting on the experience, Omori concluded that while money cannot guarantee happiness, it plays a crucial role in extending life.

"If you look at things like that, you understand that even though money cannot buy happiness, money can still buy some time. Money can buy time," he said.
