Social media has been flooded with chaotic footage of Grammy-winning artiste Damini Ogulu, known globally as Burna Boy, taking his newly acquired ₦9 billion Venuum Bugatti Chiron VXX onto the streets of Lagos, triggering scenes of frantic fan chases and structural roadblocks.

Multiple viral videos shared across X showed crowds of young individuals sprinting alongside the low-slung hypercar as it navigated Lagos traffic. Driven by the hope of catching a glimpse of the musician or receiving cash handouts, several onlookers were spotted tripping, falling, and sustaining minor injuries while attempting to keep pace with the vehicle.

In a separate clip, the limits of the city's infrastructure were put on full display when the multi-million-dollar hypercar became stuck at the entrance of a popular nightlife venue due to the steep height difference between the main road and the club’s driveway.

With the vehicle's ultra-low ground clearance preventing entry, venue officials and members of Burna Boy's security detail spent time assessing the situation before eventually constructing a makeshift wooden ramp to elevate the front bumper and allow the car to pass safely.

The scenes have sparked intense commentary across digital platforms, with critics pointing to the events as a vivid commentary on life in Nigeria. Especially Lagos state.

Poverty or fanatism

For many commentators, the images of young citizens risking injury to chase a luxury vehicle underscored the stark economic disparities and widespread youth unemployment facing the country.

The phenomenon of young fans and hustlers pursuing high-profile celebrities in public spaces, often referred to locally as "surrounding" or "chasing" is a recurring feature of Lagos nightlife culture, driven by expectations of cash being sprayed.

Poor Infrastructure

Others highlighted the point of operating hyper-engineered exotic cars on public roads plagued by poor drainage design, uneven paving, and steep structural curbs.

Exotic sports cars like the Bugatti Chiron are engineered primarily for smooth track surfaces and uniform highways, featuring ground clearances as low as 4.7 inches (120 mm).

On Nigerian urban roads, where steep gutters, speed bumps, and uneven driveway inclines are common, operating such vehicles frequently presents severe mechanical and logistical challenges.
