Popular Nigerian blogger Linda Ikeji has waded into the growing controversy surrounding a luxury handbag spotted with Margaret Obi, wife of Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, dismissing the widely circulated ₦250 million price estimate attached to the bag.

Sharing a photo of the bag in question, Linda, known for her own collection of designer pieces, urged her followers to calm down, drawing on her personal experience with the brand to push back on the figure making the rounds online.

"Relax people... this is not a N250m bag.... If it was, you think she would be traveling with it? I know how much these bags cost, because I have a few. Relax!" she wrote.

The controversy began after footage and images emerged showing Margaret Obi at what appeared to be an airport, dressed in green and carrying a bag widely identified as a Hermès Kelly 35 in Malachite.

According to Hermès' official website, that particular piece retails at £131,938.81, which converts to roughly ₦237 million at current exchange rates.

The images spread rapidly online, with several commentators using them as a political talking point against Peter Obi, drawing comparisons to his 2023 campaign promises around fiscal discipline and cutting the cost of governance.
