Veteran Nigerian comic actor and academic, Afeez Oyetoro, widely known as "Saka," has revealed the financial struggles that crippled his personal life early in his career, including how a marriage proposal fell apart.
Speaking during a recent interview on the media platform With Chude, the popular actor reflected on his early years in stage theater, explaining that passion, rather than money, drove his work—leaving him completely broke when he eventually stepped away.
"When I was in the theater, I was just acting for the love of it. There was no money or anything beneficial from it. So when I eventually left, I had nothing to my name," Oyetoro recalled.
The lack of financial stability took a heavy toll on his romantic life, as women rejected him over his finances. The breaking point came when a woman he intended to marry gave him a steep financial ultimatum.
"Anytime I approached a lady, they saw that there was no future for them and left me. Even the lady that I had plans of marrying told me that I must have two cars before I even think of marrying her.
"That was when something told me that 'this isn't your wife.'" he said.
