Controversial Nigerian singer and media personality Speed Darlington has advised low-income earners and individuals in modest professions to strictly limit the number of children they have.
Speaking in Igbo in a recent video shared on social media, the musician argued that financial reality should dictate family size, targeting low-earning workers as an example.
"Whether you’re a palm wine tapper or among the poor, you have no business having four or five children. Two is enough," Speed Darlington stated.
The singer urged parents to be strategic about spacing and planning their families, warning against having large households without the resources to support them.
"When you have one, take time and plan, then get another one. There is no need to have five to seven, two is enough," he added.
Expanding on his rationale, Speed Darlington noted that while one child is acceptable, having two is ideal.
According to the singer, having two children ensures that domestic and cultural responsibilities, such as planning and funding a parent's burial, do not fall entirely on a single person's shoulders.
His comments have since sparked debates across social media platforms, with users divided between agreeing with his stance on financial responsibility and questioning his blunt delivery.
