Actress and producer Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed how much she earned from her cinema movie, A Mother’s Love, giving fans a transparent breakdown of the box office run.

In a video shared online, Omotola said the film grossed N103,094,633 at the cinema.

However, after deductions, the amount accrued to the producers was N22 million.

She explained that multiple deductions were made from the gross, including payments to exhibitors, distributors, advertising costs, CAT, entertainment tax, VAT, and withholding tax.

According to her, keeping to a promise made by her production company, Red Hot Concepts, 100 per cent of the N22 million net was donated to the NGO ‘Slum to School’.

She said: “Our last cinema run was on the 19th of April; it was a beautiful day. I had a nice time at the cinema, and it was my first time doing cinema runs. It was a challenge, but I rose to the challenge, I believe. You know, as a producer, you have to show up, and that was a challenge I wasn’t ready for.

“Unfortunately, that week, I had to pull the movie out of the cinema because of pressing issues. I know I would do the movie a disservice if I left it in the cinemas, and I wouldn’t have the time to promote it or be there in the cinemas, as the culture was or is at this time.

“At the end of our run, we had made a N103, 094, 633. After deduction from exhibitors, value added tax VAT, entertainment tax, withholding tax, and every other thing. The money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s Love was N22 million. Ten per cent of that money, as promised by Red Hot, was donated to the NGO ” Slum to School”.

Omotola noted that the cinema run was a new experience for her, and pulling the film early was a tough but necessary decision.

Her transparency has sparked online conversations about the realities of Nollywood cinema distribution and how much producers actually receive after all deductions.

Despite the heavy deductions, Omotola described the run as a win and said the donation to Slum to School was part of giving back.
