Nollywood actor, Jimmy Rolland, has claimed that his former wife deceived him into believing she was a virgin before they got married, describing the revelation on their wedding night as one of the biggest disappointments of his life.
Speaking on the African A-List podcast in an episode uploaded on Saturday, the actor said he ignored several warning signs before marrying his ex-wife because he was convinced she was truthful.
“I am not a fool. I saw signs, but I was hypnotised by my mother-in-law,” he said.
According to Rolland, both his mother and some friends had advised him against the marriage after what he described as spiritual consultations.
“My mother and friends made spiritual consultations and warned me not to marry her, but I did not listen,” he said.
The actor said he and his former wife dated for four years before getting married and that she repeatedly told him she was a virgin.
“She told me she was a virgin, so I did not bother to make attempts to make love to her. We dated for four good years,” Rolland said.
He explained that after their introduction, she insisted they wait until after their wedding before becoming intimate.
“After our introduction, she said, ‘Till the wedding night.’ I had to wait for some months, then on the wedding night, it ended up to be a lie,” he said.
Rolland said he was devastated by the discovery and admitted he considered ending the relationship at the time.
“I was disappointed, and I should have walked away, but I did not. It was not me,” he said.
Reflecting on the breakdown of the marriage, the actor said the most painful part was losing access to his two children after the separation.
“What was disheartening is that we have two kids together, and she took them away.”
He claimed the emotional distress of being separated from his children later affected his health.
“Because of the children she took away, I had a stroke.
“Because of too much thinking about those children, I had a stroke,” he said.
Rolland added that his mother continues to mourn the separation from her grandchildren.
“My mother still cries because she wants to see those children,” Rolland said
The actor did not disclose when the marriage ended or whether there are ongoing legal proceedings regarding custody of the children.
