Popular Nigerian billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, has opened up in a viral video about how a remark from his daughter in school pushed him back into active business after he had temporarily stepped away from work.

Otedola explained that at a point in his life, he had accumulated enough wealth to live comfortably on interest earnings of about 35% from Nigerian banks. According to him, this level of financial stability made him step back from day-to-day business activities.

He noted that during that period, he was content and had no urgent plans to return to active work, as his savings were generating sufficient income.

However, the business mogul said his perspective changed after a conversation involving his daughter at school. He recalled that when she was asked what her father did for a living, she responded that he “sleeps every morning.”

Otedola said the comment struck him deeply and made him rethink how he was being viewed, even within his own family’s perception.

He added that the experience eventually inspired his return to active entrepreneurship, describing it as a turning point that reshaped his approach to work and purpose.

In his words; “I made money and put it in Nigeria banks and I was making 35% in interest until one day my daughter was asked at school what her dad does for a living and she said I sleep. That’s when I started business again.”
