Exactly one week after the heartbreaking death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, his close friend and fellow actor Uti Nwachukwu has shared an emotional tribute that has touched many fans online.
The former Big Brother Naija star took to his Instagram story to reflect on the painful moment he first heard about Alexx’s passing. According to Uti, he initially dismissed the news as another celebrity death rumour until he received a devastating phone call confirming the tragedy.
Recall that Alexx Ekubo reportedly died on Tuesday, May 12, at Evercare Hospital after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer, a loss that sent shockwaves across the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Sharing his grief, Uti revealed that Tuesdays may never feel the same for him again. He recalled joking around when the first message came in, only for reality to hit moments later.
In his words:
“Today makes it a week. Tuesdays might never be the same again. Goofing around when the first message came. I said, ‘Una never taya for rumour? Abegi.’ Then the phone call came. I answered in my playful tone, but my always happy Gee’s phone was so cold as he said, ‘I don’t have good news for you.’”
The actor further stated that he still struggles to accept the painful reality of losing his dear friend, adding that the grief now comes in waves.
“The pain comes and goes in waves now, and I still can’t get myself to say goodbye. I pray God consoles all your loved ones and gives us the fortitude we all need.”
Fans and colleagues have continued to flood social media with tributes, prayers, and heartfelt messages in honour of the late actor, whose sudden passing has left many devastated.
