I don't speak Yoruba, it doesn't fit me - Davido

Singer Davido Singer Davido

Singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he doesn't speak Yoruba because he doesn't think the language fits him.

Davido said this when he appeared on a cooking show, where he was asked if he speaks Yoruba.

"No. I won't say I don't speak Yoruba, I feel like it doesn't fit me. I understand everything, but when it comes to music."

Reacting, Netizens slammed the singer, with one @Letter_to_Jack saying, "Yoruba doesn’t fit him yet it’s the language he uses the most for his hits."

@LENNONstl said, "There’s some statements that should not come out from a leader. @davido if Yoruba do not suit you, pls tell me how you want to rule them. I’m sure tomorrow will come and you’ll try to contest for a political post, this type of video will be used against you. How could you say Yoruba do not suit you ah, a proudly son of the soil shouldn’t utter out something like that. I love you as my favorite but sometimes you need serious correction baba imade."

@Accountant_Ladi said, "Does this guy have anyone who advices him at all! Like, how can someone be this pathetically foolish."

@Leaf_Herb said, "@davido said he does not speak Yoruba....Because Speaking Yoruba does not fit him?! Regional government with self determination is a must and all regions must preserve & promote their indigenous culture. All Elected officials will be made to address their people in their language."

@thebeeperfumery said, "Davido has always been a sellout. He's culturally inclined but lacks the intellectual ability to know when to speak or what to say. Dude practically grew up in a house where Yoruba was 100% spoken. Burna, Wizkid, Olamide etc love representing the culture. Dude got a big mouth."

@jhybow_whiskey said, "I have always have my reason of never supporting Davido, and this crown it all, I will never support a proud Yoruba-but, that name is late son “Ifeanyi” never proud of Yoruba, but Yoruba resources and political power fit him, but the language does not fit him, OSUN E RONU!"
