Actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji has expressed gratitude after his film, Lisabi: A Legend Is Born won two awards at the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards on Saturday.
The film received awards for Best Makeup and Best Indigenous Language Film West Africa.
In a statement on X, Adedimeji said the recognition elevated the project and noted that the sequel had retained the same categories won by Lisabi: The Uprising at the 2025 ceremony.
He wrote: “With a deep sense of gratitude to Almighty, all I’ve come to do is to appreciate His kindness towards me and mine.
“The past few weeks have been filled with lots of heartwarming events. The overwhelming celebration of our kings by the entire nation; I’ve been enveloped by love and warmth. How can I not be grateful?
“At the AMVCA last night, LISABI won 2 awards, best makeup and walking off the stage with the award for the best indigenous movie from West Africa elevated the whole story.
“We did it before, we did it again. Lisabi – The Uprising won this same categories last year, now the sequel, Lisabi – A Legend Is Born retained the crown for us. All our labor, hard work and sacrifices paid off. We won again!”.
He thanked the AMVCA, director Niyi Akinmolayan, the cast and crew, and fans who voted.
Adedimeji also acknowledged his wife, producer and co-executive producer, Mo Bimpe Oyebade, describing her as his partner in bringing the project to life.
He also congratulated makeup artist Hakeem Effect for his contribution to the film’s win in the makeup category.

Lisabi: A Legend Is Born is a historical epic centered on Yoruba history and resistance.
The franchise’s back-to-back wins mark a continued focus on indigenous storytelling at the awards.
The 12th AMVCA, held in Lagos, featured 32 categories recognising achievements in African film, television, and digital content.
