Controversial activist and Ratel president, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has responded to recent remarks made by his former close associate, Seun Kuti.
The fallout between the two escalated after VDM shared a video in which he revealed that there were personal reasons preventing him from calling out the singer though he chose not to disclose those reasons publicly.
Seun Kuti, however, did not hold back in his reaction. The Afrobeat musician dismissed the need for external validation, stating that the respect and love he receives from his daughter and family are more than enough for him.
In a fresh response, VDM fired back, accusing Kuti of lacking honour amid their ongoing dispute. He argued that the singer’s actions online reflected poorly on his sense of self-respect.
VDM further stated that he now considers their relationship over, adding that if they ever cross paths, he would neither greet nor embrace Kuti. He also made it clear that he has no intention of addressing the singer publicly again.
Despite his criticism, VDM explained that he has chosen not to escalate the situation out of respect for Seun Kuti’s father, Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
He recalled a past visit they both made to Fela’s gravesite, where they paid tribute together. According to VDM, they performed traditional rites during the visit, including breaking kola nuts in honour of the late icon.
VDM concluded by reaffirming his admiration for Fela, noting that the music legend stood up to military rule at a time when many were too afraid to do so—an act he says will always earn his respect.
