Popular Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, widely known as AY, has broken his silence after his ex-wife, Mabel, sparked online reactions by removing his surname from her 40th birthday souvenirs.

The development stirred conversations on social media after clips from Mabel’s birthday celebration surfaced online, showing customized souvenirs bearing the name “Dr Mabel Nwanegbu” instead of "Makun".

The souvenirs, themed “A Celebration of Praise, Gratitude & Grace,” were prepared for her 40th birthday event held on March 30, 2026.

Shortly after the clips went viral, AY took to Instagram to reflect on the success of his recent live show, where he expressed appreciation to his fans and supporters.

Mabel, an interior designer, had earlier reverted to her maiden name, Nwanegbu, following the couple’s separation in 2024.

However, many social media users also pointed out that her Instagram bio still retains the name “Mrs Makun.”

Her Lagos birthday celebration was attended by several celebrities, including Toyin Abraham, Don Jazzy, and Bose Ogulu, further drawing public attention to the event.
