Singer Chike has revealed that his mum advised him to ensure the partner he wants to settle down with is working and not a liability.

In an interview with Ada’s Room podcast, the 33-year-old stated that love should not be the only thing to consider before chosing a woman for marriage.

He also revealed that he frequently questions women to determine whether they come from comfortable households and are industrious before proposing a relationship.

“I think everybody should look for a partner that has value. Personally, my mum advised me never to settle down with a woman who doesn’t have a source of livelihood regardless of love,” he said.

The singer added, “She also told me never to marry someone with the baggage of family responsibilities, especially a firstborn that is not productive.”

He also advised men to think beyond sex before engaging in a relationship, especially one that has the potential of leading to marriage.
