The family of late singer Mohbad has raised new concerns about the ongoing DNA test to determine the paternity of his son, Liam.
In a statement issued by their legal representative, Oladayo Ogungbe, on behalf of Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, questions were raised about the technical capability of some laboratories chosen for the test.
The case follows an earlier ruling by a Lagos Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, which directed that the DNA analysis be carried out in three agreed laboratories: DNA Diagnostics Centre (USA), Alpha Biolabs (UK), and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited (UK).
However, according to the family, inquiries revealed that two of the labs—Alpha Biolabs and Advanced Histopathology—may not be equipped to conduct post-mortem DNA testing involving tissue extraction from embalmed remains. This has introduced fresh uncertainty into the already sensitive case.
“In light of these responses, the applicant deemed it necessary to notify the court,” the statement noted, adding that an affidavit has been filed.
The lawyer dismissed claims that the family deliberately selected unsuitable labs, explaining that only one was nominated by the applicant, while the others were chosen by the respondent and the court.
Despite the concerns, Joseph Aloba reaffirmed his commitment to a transparent and credible process in line with the court’s directive. The case seeks to establish whether Liam, born in April 2023, is the biological son of the late singer, whose death in September 2023 continues to spark legal and public debate.
