Controversial Nigerian singer and entertainer Speed Darlington, popularly known as Akpi, has publicly challenged the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) over its handling of allegations linked to fellow artiste Simi.

On February 24, NAPTIP released a statement indicating it was open to reviewing any credible information submitted regarding resurfaced social media posts allegedly made by Simi over a decade ago while she worked at her mother’s daycare. The agency urged members of the public to forward verified evidence through its official channels.

Reacting on X, Speed Darlington questioned whether gender was influencing the agency’s response.

“NAPTIP, is it because she is a woman?” he wrote.

He also referenced his own experience in 2025, claiming he was declared wanted over what he described as a similar issue, arguing that the response in his case was swift and public.

Broadening his commentary, the rapper suggested that society often frames crime in gendered terms, noting that labels like “kingpin” and “cartel boss” are typically associated with men. According to him, allegations against women sometimes attract more sympathy in public discourse.

“When a woman commits a crime, the narrative often shifts to sympathy. Why the double standard?” he asked.
