Costa Rican footballer Derrikson Quiros has stunned fans after confirming the end of his relationship only three days after proposing to his girlfriend, Wendy, during a match.

The CSD Xelajú MC player had gone down on one knee following a National League Clausura fixture, asking Wendy to marry him in front of cheering supporters.

She said yes, and the couple celebrated with a kiss in a moment that quickly made headlines across Costa Rica and beyond.

However, the romantic high was short-lived. Taking to his Instagram Stories, Quiros announced that the relationship had come to an end.

“Yes, it is true that my relationship has ended. It was a difficult personal situation, like any breakup, but I prefer to handle it with respect and maturity,” he wrote.

The footballer did not disclose the reason for the sudden split, leaving many supporters surprised by the swift turn of events after what appeared to be a joyful engagement.
