Actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has shared a touching account of the kindness and dedication of the late mother of her colleague, Funke Akindele, revealing how she played a crucial role in protecting her children during a frightening moment in 2004.
The tribute followed an emotional Instagram post by Funke Akindele, who marked the third anniversary of her mother’s death with heartfelt words celebrating her as a selfless woman whose discipline, values, and teachings shaped her life and career. Akindele expressed gratitude for the quality education and strong moral foundation her mother provided, adding that she remains committed to living in a way that honours her legacy.
Responding in the comment section, Iyabo Ojo confirmed the depth of the late woman’s impact by sharing a personal experience involving her children, Festus and Priscilla. According to Ojo, the late doctor stepped in at a critical moment, offering medical care, comfort, and prayers that helped prevent what could have turned into a tragic situation.
Ojo noted that Funke Akindele’s mother went beyond her professional duties to ensure the safety and wellbeing of her children, offering reassurance during a time filled with fear and uncertainty. She also highlighted the late doctor’s strong faith, recalling her consistent prayers and words of encouragement, even during periods when she and Akindele were not on good terms.
Describing her as a woman of rare compassion and strength, Ojo said the late doctor’s legacy of kindness, professionalism, and spirituality left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered.
“A beautiful soul she was,” Ojo wrote. “Back in 2004, I truly thought I would lose Festus and Priscilla, but she said, ‘No. Not on my watch.’ She was a great doctor and an even greater prayer warrior. Even when Funke and I fought, she never stopped calling me or praying for me. She was truly a mother to all. Rest on, mama.”
