Reality TV star Tope Adenibuyan, popularly known as Teddy A, has spoken candidly about the emotional toll and reputational damage caused by false allegations of domestic abuse leveled against him in the past.
During a recent appearance on the "WithChude" podcast, Teddy A described the claims, which suggested he physically harmed his wife, actress and media personality Bamike “Bambam” Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, including during her pregnancy, as completely unfounded and deeply shocking for their family.
According to Teddy A, the accusations took both him and Bambam by surprise. On the morning the allegations began circulating, he recalled, life at home was normal.
“I woke up, went downstairs, and my wife was there watching a movie. She was pregnant and laughing,” he said.
He first realized something was amiss when his phone began receiving an unusual flood of notifications.
“I hadn’t posted anything. I was wondering what was trending and why my phone was blowing up,” Teddy A explained. As he read through the online comments, he noticed his wife becoming emotional and confused.
“She kept asking who could do this to us. Honestly, I didn’t know where it came from,” he added.
The former "Big Brother Naija" housemate noted that the story spread quickly, sparking widespread speculation and online discussions, leaving him stunned by the speed at which false narratives can take hold.
In response, he initially followed his manager’s advice to stay silent and let the matter fade. However, Teddy A admitted that this approach had long-term consequences.
“At the time, I didn’t understand the damage staying silent would do. Even now, when my wife and I post photos or videos, people still comment and ask if I beat her,” he said.
The experience, he said, profoundly affected how the public perceived him.
“It affected me because people began to see me in a way that wasn’t true,” he reflected.
