'No valentine this year' — Apostle Suleman tells Nigerians to skip celebration amid economic struggles

In a 70-second video that has gone viral on social media, Apostle Johnson Suleman, leader of Omega Fire Ministries, urged Nigerians to forgo Valentine’s Day celebrations, citing the country’s severe economic challenges.

Instead, the man of God encouraged fasting and prayer, particularly as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking directly to his audience, Suleman warned men against taking on financial burdens for their fiancés’ families, such as paying school fees.

He argued that such responsibilities often strain individuals unprepared for them and perpetuate inherited economic problems, an issue made more urgent by Nigeria’s inflation rate exceeding 30% in early 2026.

@zoeymetax___"The annual anti Valentine sermon has arrived. Meanwhile, people will still celebrate regardless of what any pastor says. If consenting adults want to show love and appreciation to each other, that’s between them and their wallets, not the church."

@Mhiz_Lynn__"At the end of the day, everyone should do what makes them happy. Period."

@Staypatient___"He better don't let Nigerian ladies catch him. They are fully ready to cash out of it"

@UgoJ3___"Everybody should do whatever pleases them. When people are in love, all this talk is just noise.Whether you celebrate Valentine’s or not, those who have chosen to vote for another year of suffering will still do so. Let us give ourselves peace in things we can’t solely change"
