The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially placed controversial Nigerian rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, on a watchlist after he failed to honour an invitation to appear at the agency’s Abuja headquarters.
The update was given on November 24 by Ijeoma Mary Amugo, NAPTIP’s Director of Legal and Prosecution, during a press briefing in Abuja.
Speed Darlington was first declared wanted on June 27, 2025, over allegations of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
The allegations stem from a social media video in which he appeared to boast about having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl. Following the uproar, the rapper filed a lawsuit against NAPTIP.
Speaking at the briefing, Amugo revealed that the artiste not only ignored their invitation but also attempted to use social media to “intimidate” the agency.
“He went online to preemptively intimidate us, claiming he would not honour our invitation and accusing us of infringing on his rights,” she said.
“We made efforts to physically locate him because a suspect has to be found before justice can be served.”
She added that the agency’s latest findings indicate that Speed Darlington is currently outside Nigeria, prompting them to escalate the case by placing him on a watchlist.
“As I speak, the last information we received is that he is outside the country. We have not heard from him. He has been placed on a watchlist.
Anytime he enters Nigeria, NAPTIP will continue the investigation from where we stopped,” Amugo stated.
The agency states that the case remains open and will be proceeded with immediately once the rapper comes within reach of Nigerian authorities.
