Nigerian singer Aituaje Iruobe, popularly known as Waje, has opened up about being denied payment and recognition for her contribution to Psquare’s hit song “Do Me.”
Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, the award-winning vocalist revealed that she was the female voice featured on the 2007 classic track by the now-defunct music duo, Psquare.
Waje recalled how she recorded her part for the song but was never compensated or even acknowledged after its release, despite the track becoming one of the biggest Afrobeats hits of the 2000s.
“I was the one who sang the female part of ‘Do Me, I Do You’. But I didn’t get paid, and I wasn’t even credited,” she said during the interview.
The mother of one also shared how heartbreaking it was to hear the song playing everywhere while receiving no recognition for her work.
She humorously described walking through Onitsha Market, proudly telling traders that it was her voice on the track, only for them to dismiss her, asking, “Who are you?”
