Former Your View host and Managing Director of TVC Entertainment, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has shared previously untold details about her stay at the station.
TVC had announced the departure of Morayo from the station after over a decade.
However, speaking on the With Chude podcast, the veteran broadcaster, who recently shared her battle with depression, revealed that she once lost her job at TVC due to internal politics.
She added that it took the direct intervention of the organisation’s proprietor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for her to be reinstated.
Morayo recalled that her early years at TVC were not without turbulence.
She said: “Three years after working in TVC, internal politics got me fired."
At the time, she explained, Tinubu did not even know she worked at the station.
It was only after news of her dismissal spread that well-meaning people reached out to him, pointing out that she was the daughter of the late lawyer Alao Aka-Basorun.
According to Morayo, Tinubu then summoned her to his office for an explanation.
She stated: “He called me to his office and asked what had happened? After a lot of back and forth, I got my job back, although I was demoted"
Why Morayo supported Tinubu in 2023
The broadcaster also addressed her controversial decision to openly support Tinubu during the 2023 presidential elections.
She said it was a “personal and deliberate” choice, not one imposed on her.
She explained: “I got a letter from the women’s arm of the campaign saying that I’ve been selected to work. Now, I had two choices: say no or support him. Because I actually did support him. I believed in his candidacy."
Morayo compared her endorsement to Oprah Winfrey’s famous backing of Barack Obama, saying she had to make a decision that felt right at the time.
