The Federal Road Safety Corps has broken its silence as many Nigerians continue to mourn the sad demise of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of reality star and upcoming actress Phyna.
In a statement released on Sunday, August 31, the FRSC expressed sorrow over the death of Ruth Otabor, who sustained critical injuries in an accident involving a Dangote truck and a motorcycle in Auchi, Edo state.
Legit.ng recalls reporting that Ruth was involved in the fatal crash on August 13, 2025, days after she graduated from Auchi Polytechnic.
The accident resulted in severe injuries that led to the amputation of one of her limbs before she passed away on Sunday, August 31.
Reacting to Phyna's sister's death, the FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, conveyed the condolences of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, to the Otabor family, the Students’ Union, and the entire Auchi Polytechnic community.
The Corps disclosed that after the crash, it took proactive steps to engage critical stakeholders towards preventing recurrence.
One of the steps taken by the FRSC included a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to address their concerns and to provide a clear account of the Corps’ ongoing interventions in road safety management.
The Corps also disclosed it has intensified its collaboration with major fleet operators, including Dangote, BUA, and other heavy truck companies, through structured training and recertification programmes for their drivers.
"To this end, the Corps Marshal wishes to assure the public that the Corps remains committed to creating safer road environments across Nigeria," the FRSC statement read in part.
