Music video director TG Omori has urged Nigerians to give the church a chance to breathe amid constant criticism of its activities.
This was after an X user @dammiedammie35 shared a video recorded by a man lamenting the huge attendance at the Redemption Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
“Look at how a man built a hall of debit alert in the name of Christianity, it’s because a lot of people are jobless in this country,” the man said.
Reacting, TG Omori stated that not everyone finds solace in economic power, as some are content with what their religion provides for them.
He said, "Life isn’t all about making money or chasing economic power; some people find comfort and solace in spirituality or religion. Even the China you all speak of has monks and spiritualists who have found peace in their search and pursuit of eternal life with no interest in the wealth of the world. Because you haven’t experienced life events that have left you with no choices doesn’t make you wiser; a billion religious people can’t all be stupid. Just live and let live."
In response, @majorlouwe said, "Ask yourself this question: what has religion done for you… think about this very well and answer yourself sincerely."
TG Omori responded by revealing how his church encouraged him to pursue a career in filmmaking and even sponsored him.
He said, "The church funded and advised me to pick up a career in filmmaking. The church gave me a platform to discover my acting and directing skills at drama nights when the hood or trenches had no social club or neighborhood theater houses.
"I know everyone has their frustrations and augments, but please give the church a breathing space. If I calculate my whole family offering for 10years growing up, e no reach 20k. Money wey my papa dey take down beer steady that year.
