The amount of affection that Nollywood actress and box office queen Funke Akindele has received from her supporters and admirers has left her stunned and overcome.
As Everybody Loves Jenifa became the highest-grossing film in West Africa ever with 1.6 billion, the director announced on her Instagram page that she had broken her previous record.
Funke Akindele thanked her millions of admirers and supporters and gave God the credit for doing it for her, adding that she was at a loss for words.
She wrote, “Na God do am o!!!! I am so grateful to you all!!!! I no know Wetin I go write again!!!”.
The fact that Funke Akindele is Africa's box office queen is no longer news. She became the first Nigerian director to earn over N1.4 billion at the box office in January of last year with her 2023 feature, A Tribe Called Judah.
Given that Funke is among the most diligent women in Nollywood, many were not surprised. The highest-grossing Nollywood films ever are her flicks from the last three years: Omo Ghetto The Saga, Battle On Buka Street, and A Tribe Called Judah.
