According to the controversial social media activist VeryDarkMan, rapper Naira Marley told him that he owed Mohbad, his former signee, an undisclosed amount of money before his passing.
Recall that the late singer sadly died in September 2023 under dubious circumstances after leaving Naira Marley's Marlian Music because the record label allegedly didn't fulfill their end of the bargain.
Since his death was so contentious, some blamed his former label boss, Naira Marley, and his associate, Sam Larry, who was seen attacking the late artist in a widely shared video prior to his passing.
On October 6, 2023, the two were arraigned and placed under remand for their suspected role in the events leading up to Mohbad's death; however, they were later released on bail following their not guilty plea.
Some fans have persisted in accusing them on social media and boycotting Naira Marley's songs despite their not guilty plea.
VeryDarkMan, who has been actively involved in the case, claimed in a video message that went viral on social media ahead of Mohbad's 28th posthumous birthday that he offered Naira Marley the chance to use his popularity to further establish his innocence, but the rapper declined.
According to him, Naira Marley told him that he owed Mohbad a significant amount of money before his untimely death.
He said: “I asked Naira Marley why he is not coming out to show the public his own evidence — the business side — because he clearly owed the boy [Mohbad] some money. He told me how much he owed the boy. It’s not a small amount of money.
“He told me how much he was supposed to give him and what caused their problem. He said their problem started when Mohbad began working outside the record label’s contract and requested to change the management the label provided for him. I then asked him to come out and explain to Nigerians what transpired between them, but he said God will fight his battles.”
