Nigerian author and social media activist Reno Omokri has criticized popular singer Paul Okoye, often known as Rudeboy of Psquare fame, for calling on the President of Nigeria to reduce the cost of fuel.

The singer expressed his dismay over the severe economic challenges in the country, particularly the surge in petroleum product prices, and asked President Bola Tinubu to lower fuel prices.

According to Rudeboy, President Bola Tinubu should reduce the cost of fuel to N450 if he truly loved Nigeria.

In response, Reno Omokri took to his social media account to ask Rudeboy if he was willing to cut the cost of streaming his music by half. He noted that if Rudeboy was not ready to do that, then why should he expect the President to do what he could not? Was it because he did not love his fans?

He said, "People like Paul Okoye may mean well, but they are not sufficiently aware of the economics of scale that drive commodity prices. That is why he says the President should reduce the petrol price to ₦450 if he truly loves Nigeria.

Paul Okoye sells music. Is he prepared to slash the cost of streaming his music by half? Then why is he asking the President to do what he, as a private citizen, cannot do and has not done? Does he not love his fans?"

Further, Reno Omokri questioned Rudeboy if he was aware that the government would have to pay importers and refineries the difference between the N450 and the actual price if fuel prices were artificially reduced.

The only way the government could reduce the cost of fuel was to either print more naira notes, which would result in devaluation, or keep borrowing, as the country is the third most indebted country in the world to the World Bank's International Development Association.
