Twitter has finally removed the verification badges on several accounts on the micro blogging platform.

This is coming after it announced on Thursday, April 20, that it would be removing the verification badges on every handle including organisations.

It also stated that for an account to have the verification badge, the account will have to make a monthly payment of $8.

"Tomorrow, 4/20, we are removing legacy verified checkmarks. To remain verified on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue here: https://twitter.com/i/twitter_blue_sign_up

Organizations can sign up for Verified Organizations here: https://twitter.com/i/verifiedorganizations/apply," Twitter said.

Upon several checks, MyNigeria has discovered that some notable people in the country have also gotten their verified badges removed.

Politicians such as president-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, business mogul Tony Elumelu among others have also gotten their badges removed.

Celebrities such as Pere, Tacha, Peruzzi, Davido, Wizkid and others also got their verified badges taken away.

So far, the government institutions such as President Muhammadu Buhari, Presidency of Nigeria have the grey verification badges on it accounts.

Since the removal, many have taken to Twitter to lament the new policy of Twitter.
