Year In Review: Celebrity weddings that occurred in 2022

The year 2022 happens to be a joyous year for some celebrities in Nigeria as they tie the knot with their significant other in beautiful ceremonies.

Photos and videos of the events were shared all over social media with fans and followers taking to their pages to congratulate the couples.

In the year 2022, we saw nine celebrities get married and some getting ready for 2023 after getting engaged to their partners.

Below are some notable names in the entertainment industry that tied the knot.

1. Rita Dominic and Fdelis Anosike

Veteran Nollywood actress, Rita Dominic, tied the knot with her partner, Fidelis Anosike, at a manor in North Yorkshire, England.

Their occurred seven months after she and her husband held their traditional marriage in her hometown in Imo state on April 19.

Several colleagues, friends showed up to support her and they include; Kate Henshaw, Chioma Akpotha, Toke Makinwa, Michelle Dede, and some other celebrities.

Rita Dominic got married to her sweetheart at the age of 46.

2. MI Abaga and Eniola Mafe

Nigerian rapper and music producer, Jude Lemfani Abaga, popularly known as MI Abaga, recently tied the knot with Eniola Mafe in a public ceremony.

The traditional marriage occurred on September 22, 2022, in Lagos. Friends and family were all present to support the couple on their big day.

The lavish celebration had several famous people present and they include; Banky W, IK Osakioduwa, “Basketmouth,” Jesse Jags (MI’s brother), and a host of other celebrities.

3. Kemi Adetiba and Oscar Heman-Ackah

Nigerian filmmaker, music video director, movie director, television director and producer, tied the knot with her Ghanaian lover who is a music executive, Oscar Heman-Ackah.

The couple had a private ceremony with few friends present. As videos and photos of the wedding hit the internet, friends and fans trooped to her social media page to congratulate the filmmaker.

Kemi wrote after the wedding, “Officially official!”

Kemi Adetiba is known for her works which has been aired on MTV Base, BET, Channel O, Soundcity and Netflix.

4. Isreal DMW

Israel Afeare, popularly known as Israel 30BG or Israel DMW, Nigerian singer Davido’s Logistics Manager, got married to his love, Sheila David in Benin.


Israel who has been a known Davido’s aide for years made the news when he opened Davido’s O2 Arena show in Los Angeles.

The 30BG influencer took to his Instagram page to announce his engagement in April.
His traditional marriage took place in Edo state. Present at his church wedding was his boss Davido and Chioma.

Others present at Israel’s wedding were Zlatan, socialite Cuban Chiefpriest and other members of the 30 Billion Gang family.

Davido also serenaded the newlyweds with his hit song ‘Assurance’ as Chioma sprayed them wads of Naira.

Sharing photos from the formal event, Israel wrote,” Happy marriage to me.”

5. Mercy Chinwo & Pastor Blessed

Popular Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo introduced the love of her life, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa to her people, in a beautiful and successful Nigerian traditional marriage ceremony that went viral on social media.

Mercy couldn’t hold her excitement as she officially brought her man home to mama.

Pastor Blessed of the Waterbrooks Church was of course, just as excited as this ceremony sets their forever journey in motion.

An introduction is one important factor when it comes to weddings and starting a new life with your partner is family. As it is with our culture, everyone looks forward to that beautiful moment where both families are officially introduced to one another and a new relationship is birthed.

- Gospel musician Mercy Chinwo and her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, got married in a beautiful ceremony.

The couple who got engaged in June, proceeded to have their introduction in July and a civil wedding in August.

Mercy wore three different outfits for her traditional marriage and for her white wedding, wore a beautifully designed gown. The couple’s eight-tier cake was also one of the most talked.

Seven of the layers had titles of the singer’s songs including Chinedum, Excess Love Obinasum and others, written on them.

The wedding was attended by close friends and family of the couple.

6. Blossom Chukwujekwu’s wedding

Famous Nollywood actor Blossom Chukwujekwu and wife Winifred Akhuemokhan held their white wedding at Christ Embassy Church in Lagos.

The wedding was officiated by the church’s founder, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

The couple held their traditional wedding in Edo State on May 20, three years after his marriage to Maureen Ezissi ended.

His colleagues present include; Kehinde Bankole, Omoni Oboli, Moyo Lawal, Biodun Stephen, Kenneth Okoli, and Stan Nze.

The actor shared pictures of his new wife on Instagram with the caption, “Behold God’s best for me.”

7. Comedian Funnybone weds lover in Enugu

Nigerian comedian Stanley Chibunna, popularly known as Funnybone, got married to his lover, Angel in Enugu state.

The star-studded wedding was graced by Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie, who said a special prayer for the couple during the event.

Some celebrities present at the event were Rachael Okonkwo, Stan Nze and Akah Nani.
In June, Funnybone announced his engagement on his Instagram page.

Funnybone started as a dancer where he often mimed Julius Agwu’s songs. He later delved into acting and then music before finally settling for comedy.

8. Sirbalo’s wedding

Nigerian comedian and skit maker, Obotuke Timothy popularly known as Sirbalo, tied the knot to his beautiful wife in Edo state.

Sirbalo wore a ceremonial Benin white shirt and red wrapper while his wife also rocked a beautiful traditional attire.

The traditional wedding was graced by his fellow skit makers including Cute Abiola and Officer Woos.

Sirbalo started his online comedy in 2018 and has established himself as a popular name in the industry.

9. Davido and Chioma's wedding

Following the sad news of the death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi, the couple in November tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony.

Photos and videos were not shared on social media as it was rumoured that they got married in Davido’s father’s house.

The couple confirmed the event after they were spotted with wedding bands on their fingers during their first appearance since the death of their son.

The newlyweds were seen at Davido’s uncle inauguration as the newly elected governor of Osun state.
