Nigerian beauty influencer and Youtuber, Dumebi Lea has stated that it is very essential for darker-skinned people to have more representation in the beauty industry.

She stated this in an exclusive interview with MyNigeria on July 12, 2021.

According to Dumebi, lighter-skinned people have more representation and are seen as the standard of beauty in many parts of the world but beauty goes beyond one's skin tone, and every shade is beautiful.

"I've also been inspired by the fact that we need more representation as relates to Black, African beauty standards. You understand. I realize that a lot of people that are dark-skinned like me, or darker-skinned people of either African descent or actual Africans don't really have representation like our lighter-skinned counterparts, and I know this because when I drop videos and they are directed at people that are our shade, I get comments, and people are like, 'oh thank you', 'I didn't think I was beautiful because I was dark and stuff'.

"And that inspired me because we need to know that beauty is beyond your skin tone, and every shade is beautiful," she said.

Dumebi Lea mentioned Jackie Aina, a Nigerian-American beauty YouTuber as one of the people she is inspired by.

"I think I am inspired by people who are doing what I do but are ahead of me. The likes of Jackie Aina, like it's a lot of them that I can start to name," she said.

Dumebi who also is very knowledgeable in hairstyling and fashion added that knowing and applying all other aspects of beauty to what you already specialize in complements your entire work perfectly.

"As a beauty influencer, you're not limited to just makeup, you're not limited to just hair, but I am a makeup artist so my strongest strength will always be the makeup aspect," she said.
