The Nigerian movie fraternity was thrown into a state of mourning following the death of veteran actor, Ernest Asuzu.

According to reports that trickled in this morning, the actor slumped and never woke up.

The reports say the movie star died around 9 pm on Tuesday evening. His death has been met with shock with Nigerian sending their condolences to his family via social media.

In a brief chat with The Punch, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, confirmed the news of the actor’s passing.

"Yes, Ernest Asuzu is dead. I am trying to reach his wife to get the full details. I will get back to you."

Recall that months ago, the Asuzu became a trending topic on social media after a Nigerian man identified as Bolingo2014 on Instagram shared a video of himself and the actor.

Bolingo claimed that he saw the actor begging for money on the roadside at Oke-Afa in Isolo area of the state. He alleged that the actor became this way after he suffered from a stroke, Legit.ng said.

The deceased actor began his acting career in the '90s and rose to prominence after he starred in the 1997 Nollywood classic, 'Rituals'.

Asuzu was a top gun in the movie industry until he came down with a stroke in 2015 and it affected his speech. He was also bedridden for three years.
