Veteran Nigerian artiste Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa who is widely known as Charly Boy has reacted to the Senate's passage of the motion 'let the poor breath'.

On Tuesday, July 25, during plenary, Senator Yunus Akintunde (APC Oyo Central) pleaded with the Senate on behalf of Nigerians to halt the eleven Distribution Companies (DISCOs)' proposed increase in the country's energy bill.

In the motion titled "Need to halt the proposed increase in electricity tariff by eleven successor electricity distribution companies, DISCOs," Senator Akintunde stated that, if put into effect, the proposed policy will put Nigerians through even more hardship.

Adding that, “the proposed increase will significantly impact the affordability of electricity for average Nigerian, further exacerbating the financial burdens faced by households and businesses.

“It would impede industrial growth, job creation and economic development while it would also have adverse effects on the nation’s drive towards sustainable development and poverty reduction.”

Much to the senators' amusement, the move to allow Nigerians to breathe was approved by the Senate at the conclusion of the discussion.

Massive reactions were posted on social media in response to the viral video.

Charly Boy responded by posting the video on his Twitter page to express his outrage at the Senate's treatment of Nigerians as a joke and the hardships it has caused the citizens.

He continued by saying that the nation's leaders will soon be held accountable for all the harm they have caused.

He wrote: "See as dem dey take us make yeye for National Assembly. I no blame una. Una go soon take una head carry all the wahala una dey create for dis country. Ur fathers."
