Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy makes Obama’s 2020 summer playlist

Nigerian Afrobeats star, Wizkid, has made former president Obama's 2020 summer playlist with his latest single, Smile.

The song which was released last month features American Grammy winner, H.E.R. The single was at No. 15 on the playlist.

In continuation of his usual tradition, Mr. Obama shared the songs he had been listening to all summer on twitter.

"Over the past few months, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to music with my family. I wanted to share some of my favorites from the summer—including songs from some of the artists at this week’s @DemConvention. Hope you enjoy it, Obama wrote.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), upcoming Nigerian-American rapper, Chika, also featured in the list with her uplifting single, “Crown”.

Other notable Nigerian musicians on the list include Davido and Burna Boy.

The list features 53 songs from a range of genres, including reggae, hip-hop, country, pop and rock.

Others in the collection are Rihanna, Bob Marley, OutKast, Nas, J. Cole, Nina Simone and Frank Ocean among others.

Eilish, Leon Bridges, The Chicks, Common and Jennifer Hudson, who also made the list, were scheduled to perform at the ongoing National Convention of the Democratic Party.

This isn't the first time a Nigerian has featured on Mr. Obama's playlist.

In 2019, fast-rising Nigerian rapper, Afrobeats singer, songwriter, and model, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, shockingly made President Barack Obama’s summer playlist with his song 'Iron Man', Face2Face Africa reports.

According to NigerianInfo, the 20-year-old is worth more than $200,000.
